PSSLAI 7th Annual Membership Meeting and Election of Board of Trustees

PSSLAI’s 7th Annual Membership Meeting and Election of Board of Trustees was held last January 20, 2010 at the historical Gabaldon Hall of Club Filipino, City of San Juan.

As early as 9:00 a.m., members started queuing at the registration tables. PNP officials who were informed of the change in venue assured the Association of its support by disseminating the said changes to their personnel. True to their words, members from the National Headquarters started to pour in at the lobby of Club Filipino, most of them ferried by their corresponding PNP service vehicles. As such, we extend our appreciation to the unwavering support of the Philippine National Police.

Just like the old times, PSSLAI has extended its generosity to its members by giving away packed souvenir items. Non-stop parlor games were held at the early start of the day while waiting for the arrival of the Chairman of the Board of PSSLAI. A total of 35 indoor raffle prizes were given away to those present during the meeting.

At exactly 10:30 a.m., the main program started with PSSLAI’s Chairman of the Board, PDG Jesus Ame Verzosa presiding over the said assembly. Board of Trustees present during the meeting are as follows:

  • Director Jesus Ame Verzosa
  • Director Lucas M Managuelod

  • Director George L Aliño
  • Director Enrique T Bulan
  • Director Clyde L Fernandez
  • Director Teofilo S Melliza
  • Director Romeo O Odi
  • Director Calixto M Pamplona
  • Director Wency T Pascual

The highlight, of course, of the day’s program is the Election of the Board of Trustees. Two (2) new trustees were elected replacing Director Edgar Dula Torres and Director Clyde L Fernandez. They were Director Thomas P Manlongat and Director Jose Antonio C Salvacion.

PSSLAI Gives Assistance to Victims of Typhoon Ondoy

Photo shows PDIR Ernesto V Belen, President and CEO while turning over the relief goods to PNP-PCRG representative PSI Dinah Colminero. Witnessing the turn over is the Association’s General Manager and Corporate Affairs Officer

PSSLAI joins the whole nation in its massive effort to assist victims of Typhoon Ondoy by providing relief assistance to communities affected by the worst typhoons that struck the country this year.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, PSSLAI donated 500 bags of relief goods, each bag containing ready to eat food, mineral water, disinfectant and toiletries. It can be observed that our Association opted to use a reusable backpack that is waterproof and can be useful for the families affected especially their children. When everything returns to normal, these bags can be used as school bags by the children.

Through the partnership with the Philippine National Police, specifically the Police Community Relations Group, said items were distributed to areas affected by the flood. PSI Dinah Colminero received the relief goods on behalf of PCRG Director, PCSUPT Nicanor A. Bartolome.

Ondoy’s onslaught brought a month’s worth of rainfall over Metro Manila, causing the worst flooding in 40 years. Ondoy has marked a place in history as one of the country’s most damaging typhoons.

THE PRESIDENT’S REPORT (on the occasion of PSSLAI’s 7th Anniversary Celebration)

PDIR Ernesto V Belen ( ret)President and CEO

HISTORY

2003 was the year that PSSLAI opened its doors to service the men and women of the Philippine National Police. With a meager 54M in start up capital and a mere 27 employees on bard, PSSLAI has continuously grown to what it is now – a 7B company, employing 84 individuals and most importantly servicing 77,348 members. This month, we joyously mark the 7th year anniversary of Public Safety Savings and Loan Association, Inc. with the theme: “7 Brilliant Years, PSSLAI – Better than Ever”.

I welcome all of you to witness, the growth of our ASSOCIATION.

FOUNDATION

The first year and a half of PSSLAI was an experience.
Text Box:
They have one thing in common – sila ay miyembro ng Club 3000………

It was during those important days that PSSLAI took the rein and promised our Policemen – tutulungan namin kayo sa abot ng aming makakaya na hindi na kayo mababaon muli (sa utang) – mala MacArthur ang dating.

This is the beginning of PSSLAI’s commitment to serve those who serve and protect.

FINANCIAL HIGHLIGHT

Membership has certainly continuously increased since its inception in 2003. From 56,961 members by the end of 2008, to 72,217 members by end of 2009, the Association is now servicing 77,348. This figure represents a 26.78% and 7.10% growth. An indicator, that PSSLAI is becoming the preferred SLAI of our policemen.

Text Box: PSSLAI has always been referred to in the field as “Atin ito” or “Bangko natin yan” by policemen. It is no wonder then that aside from the growing membership, loan availments have also continuously increased. The Association’s Outstanding Loans and Discounts reveal a 25.62% growth from 2008’s figure of 3.641B to 2009’s 4.574B. This is despite the various tempting offers of our competitors to ease the documentational requirements for their loans.

Just like the membership and loan availments, the Deposits generated by the Association experienced a jump of 36.91% or 1.317B in just one year. This is a sign that unwavering trust exists between PSSLAI and its clients.

INCOME

We continuously maximize the income of the association by (1) capitalizing on our available resources (2) controlling expenses, and (3) pushing our marketing and operational activities to the greatest extent. Thus, we are able to provide the most competitive dividends for our members. At 18% per annum, ang members natin ang bida.

TOTAL ASSETS

Text Box: These indicators have greatly supported the rise of the Association to become one of the top Savings and Loan Associations in the country today. Siyete, Siyete, Siyete, swerte ikanga nila. PSSLAI would not be what it is now without the support of our business partners, our management and staff and Board of Trustees. Most of all, All of these achievements are because of one single reason – OUR POLICEMEN. To our policemen, we commit to continuously serve you and provide innovative products that would assist you in your financial and personal needs. In line with this, we introduce the NEW PSSLAI. As we move on to signal the start of our 8th year in the service of those who serve and protect. We commit to you a new vision, stronger mission and a new set of values.

VISION

PSSLAI shall be the only savings and loan institution for all public safety families and shall be the top class provider of services in the NSSLA industry by 2016.

MISSION

To develop the culture of savings and responsible credit utilization through mutually beneficial partnerships with stakeholders, and facilitate the provision of innovative products and services for the basic needs of its members, and contribute to the general welfare of the nation

VALUES

  • A- Accountability to
  • S- Stakeholders through
  • S- Service Excellence
  • I - Integrity
  • S- Social responsiveness and
  • T- Trustworthiness

As we begin our 8th year with an upbeat modification of our thrusts, it is noteworthy to mention that as of the end of June 2010, all the members of the Board of Trustees have undergone the 6 day Professional Director’s Program of the Institute for Corporate Affairs under Dr. Jesus Estanislao, one of the country’s noted economist. Likewise, the Board has undergone a corporate retreat that aimed to create the Association’s roadmap for the years to come. Thus, we can truly say that the Association now looks at a better, stronger and more focused PSSLAI that will serve as an instrument of positive change for the lives of our members and the institution we serve. It is now an Association being run

professionally by competent members of the Board of Trustees in tandem with a dedicated, experienced management team.
